for congress all in the works now after president obama's announcement yesterday on the future of gun control. not surprisingly, not everyone so keen on what the president had to say yesterday. some republican state legislators have their own plan and that is to secede from any new federal regulations that they think go too far. according to the constitution, that is clearly illegal. but more than a few states are taking measures into their own hands. in mississippi for one house speaker phillip gunn says he will block any federal measures limiting second amendment rights from being enforced in his state. and mississippi state rep chris brown says he is drafting legislation to say that any firearms manufactured there will not fall subject to federal guidelines. down in texas, attorney general greg abbott spoke out yesterday. he said what happened in connecticut was a horrible tragedy but he also said this. >> is it appropriate to have politicians to overreact and take actions that are both counterproductive and unconstitutional. >> abbott says he is prepared to make sure politicians don't str

think you will agree with me on this. many democrats are caught because the people in their state don't want limitations on certain weapons. the ar being one of them. that's why president obama is going to have a hard. it's impossible to get it through the republican controlled house. he will never do that and probably not going to get it through the democrat controlled senate. the question is is why does he even try? why is he wasting everybody's time? >> first of all, president obama, we have a crisis of security in america. people don't feel safe. it may be that no laws we pass are going to make americans feel safer. i will tell you this, the president has to act. furthermore congress should consider the proposals that he is extending. are they going to solve the problem in they may or may not. >> bill: you know as well as i do you came out of the house. the house is never going to pass any ban on assault rifles. they are not going to do it. >> bill, in 2000 -- no, it was 1994, the house voted 216 to 214 to ban assault westles. >> bill: that's 19 years ago and a whole different cli

to advance conservatism. instead of playing defense against the obama agenda here in washington. notwithstanding the defeat to mitt romney last year. the wake of last year's election in 24 states literally half the country, republicans now control not only the governor's offices but both majorities of the two chambers the houses and the senate. it's a big advantage. it's a chance for republicans to play offense at the states. and quietly aggressively next week when they meet in charlotte, north carolina. that's one of the things they are going to be talking about. look to scott walker back in wisconsin from last year as a model. this conference is going to it be a big deal and it's the republican's first attempt to get things in order and move ahead. >> bill: they have to do something because we will be back to the blue moose party because the -- >> -- that's a dated reference. >> i'm sorry. >> so is garb glomplet me and teddy roosevelt on long island we were sculling. when we come right back, it will be miller time. lance armstrong not looking forward to this segment, i can tel
